This week’s UK Cinema Releases is a tab late i’m afraid! But better late than never.
Paranormal Activity 3
I enjoyed the first PA, mostly because of the hype but also watching in a packed screening made the suspense more tangible. The second, I was happy to ignore and unfortunately these feelings continue to the third outing. Like the second, it’s looks to have lost its ingenuity and surprise.
“In 1988, young sisters Katie and Kristi befriend an invisible entity who resides in their home.”
I’m looking forward to seeing this. The trailer looks to be a twist on the tried and tested disease / virus / zombie apocalypse – more outbreak than I Am Legend. The cast is pretty stellar: Matt Damon, Kate Winslet, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jude Law plus others, the talent can also be found off the screen, with writer Scott Z. Burns and director Stephen Soderbergh.
“A thriller centered on the threat posed by a deadly disease and an international team of doctors contracted by the CDC to deal with the outbreak.”
We need to talk about Kevin
I’ve been waiting for this movie ever since I read a review of it from Cannes Film Festival, the movie went on to be nominated for the Palm D’Or (with The Tree of Life being the eventual winner). I’m very much expecting this to be a hard movie to sit through and it certainly won’t be for every, the story sounds pretty heavy. There’s nothing but praise for Tilda Swinton’s performance, which is more than enough to persuade me to see this film.
“The mother of a teenage boy who went on a high-school killing spree tries to deal with her grief — and feelings of responsibility for her child’s actions — by writing to her estranged husband.”
A quirky, unfortunate movie. I’m a fan of Gus Van Sant’s (Milk, Paris Je’taime, Good Will hunting), work – I could tell instantly that this was his work.
“The story of a terminally ill teenage girl who falls for a boy who likes to attend funerals and their encounters with the ghost of a Japanese kamikaze pilot from WWII.”
